Statement On Incoming Hurricane Daniel
Statement By Governor Joshua Adamson On The Incoming Hurricane Daniel
September 2, 2023
It is of upmost important that I address the people of this state as we brace for yet another Hurricane in the coming days. As previously mentioned, Hurricane Daniel is quickly approaching Mesa's West Coast and is bringing with it some of the worst windgusts and rain of any Hurricane before it. According to the Jesstopian Weather Service, winds of between 200-225 Miles Per Hour are expected and damage cost estimates are steady at over 2.5 Billion dollars.
As we prepare for Hurricane Daniel's arrival, we also have been hard at work to ensure that a steady plan is in place so that our residents and citizens can effectively and swiftly evacuate the counties, cities and towns that will be greatly impacted by the Hurricane. In the last few days, I have been working with our Emergency responders who are committed to ensuring that a swift recovery of stranded Mesians is carried out, and shelters that are graded to withstand Hurricanes are opening up their doors to stranded Mesians. We are continuing to update Counties on whether or not they are going to need to evacuate their residents to protect human life.
We are also continuing to work with our healthcare facilities to ensure the safety of patients and residents of eldercare facilities. As this storm progresses, we are expecting more evacuation orders to be issued to ensure the safety of residents from across this state.
I am also asking residents to listen to their local officials and plan accordingly to be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice. If residents need help or assistance, contact your local County Executive or town officer. In preparation for the county-wide evacations, I have also ordered the State Department Of Moving Vehicles to restore vehicle registrations temporarily to vehicles whose' vehicle registrations were previously suspended. These lifts of vehicle registration suspensions are only temporary and the suspensions will become active once the evacuation period ends. LICENSE SUSPENSIONS WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT HOWEVER. As the state braces for one of the worst Hurricanes to hit it, we also are working with local food banks to ensure food, drinking water, and other necessities are available for residents once they are able to return home.
Please ensure to follow all orders from state, county, and local officials. Tolls are also suspended at this time. Most DMV offices will remain open for essential business only. ALL other DMV activities will cease and agencies in the affected counties will be closed. Schools across the affected counties will remain open up until September 11, 2023. Schools will be closed indefinitely until further notice starting on September 11, 2023.
Please keep checking our website for additional details on the progress of the storm and when evacuation orders are lifted.
Stay Safe, Follow Instructions, and Remain Vigilant,
Joshua Adamson,
Governor Of Mesa
